Sacred Clown Sold n/a n/a
As a young boy, the Heyoka took his vision quest and was visited on the mountain by the thunder beings, powerful medicine out of the west. As his spirit helper dictates, this man must live the life of a contrary. He says “yes” when he means “no”, washes in dirt, walks and rides his horse backyard and essentially does everything opposite of the people.

This man is considered sacred. He represents the conflict between the red road, which is the positive road of truth and knowledge, and the black road, which is the road of temptation and doubt. The black and red markings on this man’s clothing represent this conflict. The feathers that adorn him are from the red-tailed hawk, the turkey, the raven, and the black eagle, which is the messenger of the Great Spirit.

When a serious decision involving the people is to be made, the Heyokas’ come forth and do silly things to make people laugh. In this way, the people have the emotions of seriousness plus humor so that their decisions can be made more accurately and are balanced between the good and bad. And that is why the Heyoka is considered the Sacred Clown of the people.
